What Is Sea Moss
A sea vegetable, not a supplement trend
Sea moss (Genus Gracilaria and Chondrus crispus) is a red algae that grows on rocks along warm Atlantic coastlines. Harvested, sun-dried and rinsed, it carries a broad spread of naturally occurring minerals and a soluble fibre that turns into a smooth gel when soaked and blended.
That gel is the base of everything on our shelf. Whether you buy it raw, as a ready gel, or as gummies, you are taking the same plant. The difference is how much of the work you want to do yourself.

Choose Your Form
Raw Sea Moss vs Sea Moss Gel
Identical plant, different amount of kitchen time. Read both cards and pick the one that matches your week.
Raw Sea Moss
- Rinse, soak 12-24 hours, then blend before first use.
- Sealed and shelf-stable up to a year in a cool, dry cupboard.
- You set the thickness and the batch size.
- Lowest cost per serving. One bag makes several jars of gel.
Sea Moss Gel
- No prep. Open the jar and take a spoonful.
- Keep refrigerated. Use within three to four weeks of opening.
- Fixed, consistent texture, so the dose is easy to judge.
- Costs more per serving, in exchange for the prep being done.
Prefer neither? Gummies give a fixed daily amount with no spoon, no fridge and no measuring. It is the easiest place to start.
Why Wildcrafted
Grown on ocean rock, not in a pool
Wildcrafted sea moss is cut by hand from rocks in open, moving seawater and left to dry in the sun. Pool-grown moss is farmed in still tanks, often fed with salt and fertiliser, which gives it a paler, uniform look and a thinner mineral profile.
Wildcrafted
Deep gold to purple strands, varied shapes, sea-salt smell, thicker gel.
Pool Grown
Bleached-white and uniform, little scent, watery gel, salt residue.
Every NuYu Organics batch is wildcrafted, sun-dried and third-party tested for heavy metals.
How To Prepare And Use It
Raw to gel in four steps
One bag of raw sea moss makes roughly three 16 oz jars of gel. Total hands-on time is under fifteen minutes.
-
Rinse and clean
Rinse under cool running water two or three times, picking off any sand or shell. Do not use hot water.
-
Soak 12-24 hours
Cover with spring water and a squeeze of lime. It will swell two to three times in size and soften.
-
Blend with fresh water
Drain, then blend with fresh water, about one cup per cup of soaked moss, until completely smooth.
-
Refrigerate and set
Pour into a clean glass jar and chill two to four hours. It thickens into gel and keeps three to four weeks.

Daily Wellness Use
How much, and when
One to two tablespoons of gel a day is the usual amount for an adult, or two gummies. Start with one tablespoon for the first week so your body adjusts to the iodine, then hold it steady. Sea moss rewards consistency far more than large doses.

Four Easy Ways To Take It
-
Straight off the spoon. First thing in the morning, chased with water.
-
Blended into smoothies. It thickens the texture and the taste disappears.
-
Stirred into tea, coffee or juice. Add it once the drink has cooled a little.
-
Cooked into food. Use it as a thickener in soups, oats, sauces and baking.
If you are pregnant, nursing, or on thyroid medication, speak with your doctor before starting.
FAQ
Questions before you buy
What does sea moss actually taste like?
On its own it is mild and faintly oceanic, closer to plain gelatin than to seaweed. Two tablespoons blended into fruit, juice or oats is undetectable, which is why most people take it that way.
Should I buy raw or gel first?
Start with gel if you want to take it this week with no preparation. Choose raw if you are happy to soak and blend, and want the lowest cost per serving.
How long does sea moss gel last?
Two -three weeks for fruit infused gels and three to four weeks in a clean, sealed glass jar in the fridge. Freeze for up to four months. Raw sea moss keeps up to a year sealed in a cool, dry cupboard.
Can I take it every day?
Yes. One to two tablespoons of gel, or two gummies, is the usual daily amount for an adult. Consistency matters more than large doses.
Is it safe with thyroid medication or during pregnancy?
Sea moss is a natural source of iodine, so speak with your doctor first if you are pregnant, nursing, or taking thyroid medication.
How do I know it is really wildcrafted?
Look for deep gold to purple strands with varied shapes and a clean sea-salt smell. Pool-grown moss looks bleached and uniform, and often carries salt residue.
